West Ham to make move for Chelsea defender Tomori

05 October 2020 - 19:26

West Ham could make a shock move for highly rated defender Fikayo Tomori from Premier League rivals Chelsea. The centre-back, who caught the eye for the West London side when given an opportunity last season, is seen as surplus to requirements this season at the club.

  • The Hammers are desperate to bolster their defensive line ahead of the transfer deadline, and are hopeful that a loan deal can be reached with Chelsea that will see the Hammers pay Tomori's salary for the duration of the player's loan.

With the Chelsea side already full of defensive cover with Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, manager Frank Lampard has decided to let Tomori leave to acquire important first-team experience playing in the Premier League.

The Hammers have moved for Tomori having secured a deal for Vladimir Coufal already, the defender who made his debut last weekend. However, David Moyes has been desperate to add further cover after seeing transfer deals for both James Tarkowski and Wesley Fofana fall through at the last minute.
