17 June 2026 - 07:31

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is readying a massive transfer offer to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, as the Italian defensive midfielder is said to be keen on a move to North London. Tonali has caught the eye since his move to St James\' Park, but wants to play at the highest level in the Champions League.

  • Arsenal favourites to sign 26yo Newcastle star?

  • Arteta has been a fan of Tonali for a long time, and believes the Italian would suit his style of football well. It is understood the Gunners are going to need to pay as much as £75 million to try to secure a move for the Italy international, who is currently holidaying as his country failed to qualify for the ongoing World Cup.

Tonali has also interested both Manchester City and Manchester United, but the Emirates outfit are in pole position to sign the midfielder.

It is currently unclear if Martin Zubimendi will be staying at Arsenal next season, as the Spanish midfielder is said to be open to a return to Spain with Real Madrid. Newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Zubimendi and could pay up to 100 million euros to bring the midfielder back to La Liga. That would free up a position in Arsenal\'s midfield alongside Declan Rice, and Tonali is seen as the perfect replacement for Zubimendi, alongside English youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Tonali\'s future at Newcastle United will be the subject of much interest for a long period of the transfer window.
