King Drogba earns Chelsea first leg lead
A single Didier Drogba goal would be enough to gift Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Barcelona in yesterday evening's Champions League semi-final first leg. The Ivorian scored the goal in injury time of the first half.
The world's best player, Lionel Messi, couldn't find the net in his seventh game against Chelsea, as a resolute Blues defence kept the Argentine at bay.
It seemed that Chelsea had their fair share of luck for the whole game, as their single shot on target would hit the back of the net, whilst Barca had 24 efforts, six of which would hit the target.
But Chelsea will need even more luck in the second leg at the Nou Camp if they are to reach the Champions League final.
Alexis Sanchez hit the crossbar in just the ninth minute, as the Blues held firm to keep Barca at bay.
Then just a few minutes before half time, a Cesc Fabregas effort was cleared off of the line by another former Arsenal man, Ashley Cole.
Then Didier Drogba would finally break the deadlock, as a mistake by Messi allowed Lampard to find Ramires over the top, who then picked out Drogba with a fine pass across the box and the Ivorian swept it home.
In the 58th minute, Sanchez again had a chance to score, Fabregas played in a lovely chip over the top for Alexis but he missed from six yards out.
Then with just a few minutes remaining, Lionel Messi chipped the ball in, Puyol flicked it on with is head and Cech made an incredible save to keep the Blues at bay.
Then, deep into injury time, the luck was certainly with the Blues as Pedro smashed the post from just inside the box, it ran to the unmarked Busquets eight yards out and the Spaniard punted it wide.
