Mertesacker tips Arsenal title challenge
Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has pointed to the successes of the end of last season and suggests that with continued good form, the Gunners can mount a serious Premier League title challenge.
Many are predicting a very interesting title race as the other three teams of the "big four" in the league have changed their management, with David Moyes moving to Man Utd, Jose Mourinho returning to Chelsea and Man City replacing Roberto Mancini with Manuel Pellegrini.
That leaves just Arsenal with an unchanged coaching team. Mertesacker has pointed out that Arsenal have yet to sell any players, despite a lack of movement so far in the transfer market.
"I would say that consistency is the most important thing. If we can do that then we should be challenging for trophies and titles," Mertesacker quipped.
"We haven't sold any players yet so we are coming from a good base at the moment, we're at a good level and no-one is leaving at the moment. Maybe someone will come and strengthen our squad so it's in a better position than last summer when we lost two important players.
"It's a big year for us. We have got the World Cup at the end of it but the focus has to be on Arsenal because, of course, we want to win things and be successful this year."
