Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he will only sign

The Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will only sign players who are regarded as "special" before the conclusion of the summer transfer window on the 2nd of September.

Arsenal have so far failed to land a top player this summer, in spite of being associated with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez at different periods of the transfer window.

Having only signed Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from French Ligue 2 side Auxerre so far this summer, Wenger has stated of his willingness to make some signings before the transfer deadline, while also admitting that the players he would buy should provide an improvement to his current squad.

He told reporters : "We do not have a fixed number [of players needed], I just think we are a bit short at the moment.

"I believe the most important thing is to focus on the quality of the squad I have and to play the football we want to play.

"I'm guided by my conscience to do as well as I can for this club and by the vision of the game I want to play. I feel with the players I have, we can play the football we want to play. I'm a great admirer of the spirit and the attitude of these players. They are special.

"If I want to add something, it has to be special. I still am optimistic and I hope I will not disappoint you."
