Everton, Aston Villa and Stoke City progress in Capital One Cup
Everton, Aston Villa and Stoke City all ensured progress to the third round of the Capital One cup courtesy of wins over Stevenage, Rotherham and Walsall respectively.
All three Premier League clubs were playing at home to the Football League sides, with only Everton needing extra time to beat a stubborn Stevenage side.
Stevenage took the lead against Everton with their first shot on target on 36 minutes, before Everton equalised on the stroke of half time through Gerard Deulofeu with a top class finish after a blistering run. The game remained level until substitute Marouane Fellaini came on in extra time and scored with 5 minutes to go.
Aston Villa comprehensively beat Rotherham with 3 unanswered goals, Andreas Weimann, Christian Benteke, and Fabian Delph all on target. Villa could have won by a larget margin had they not been wasteful in front of goal.
Stoke City enjoyed similar dominance against Walsall, with Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones scoring a hat-trick to ensure the Potters progressed. These were Jones' first goals for Stoke since last January. Moroccan Oussama Assaidi who had moved from Liverpool on loan yesterday made his debut for the club after coming on at half time.
