West Ham edge closer to Joleon Lescott deal completion

West Ham have reportedly agreed a £5.25 million fee with Manchester City for the signing of England international centre back Joleon Lescott. The defender hopes that a move elsewhere will guarantee regular first team football.

Lescott has high hopes that a transfer to Upton Park will improve his chances of making Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad and with just six months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, the burly defender has decided to depart for pastures new.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has been under the microscope of late after a number of poor performances and fans have criticised his tactics and defensive selection. The manager hopes securing Lescott will be a major win for West Ham's survival hopes and will immediately improve the Hammers defensive record.

The England centre back has struggled to force his way into Manuel Pellegrini's plans as Vincent Kompany has recently returned from injury, whilst Martin Demichelis and Matja Nastasic continue to sit in front of Lescott in the City centre back pecking order.
