Arsenal eye shock move for Rio Ferdinand

Arsenal are apparently readying a shock bid for Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand this summer, according to The Mirror.
The report claims that the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen on signing an efficient back-up to the central defensive pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker this summer.
With the future of Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen in doubt beyond the current season, the Gunners are understood to be interested in signing Rio Ferdinand, who has revealed desire to prolong his playing career.
Arsenal are guaranteed a top-four finish in the league, following Everton's 3-2 home defeat to Manchester City yesterday.
