Arsenal want player-plus-cash deal for Thomas Vermaelen

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones as part of the deal which would send Thomas Vermaelen the other way.

The Gunners are keen on signing up a top-class replacement in central defence this summer, with club-captain Thomas Vermaelen like to depart before the start of the league campaign.

According to The Mirror, Wenger wants Phil Jones as a makeweight in the £10 deal for Thomas Vermaelen.

Phil Jones has failed to live up to his expectations in recent seasons at United, but he is still highly-rated in the Premier League.
