Diego Simeone keen on signing Andre Schurrle

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has reportedly launched an ambitious bid for Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle.

After losing star striker Diego Costa and Felipe Luis to the Blues this summer, the Argentine manager is now looking to strengthen his attack ahead of the season, and will be hoping to rope in the World Cup star to help his newly signed attacking duo Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann.

Schurrle, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Bayer Leverkusen in a £18 million deal in 2013, had an impressive outing with his national team in Brazil this year. Despite netting the ball eight times for the English club in the previous season, the 23-year-old has failed to establish himself in the starting line-up for Jose Mourinho’s side, and has had to compete with the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian for a spot.

According to Spanish daily AS, the La Liga champions are willing to offload Cristian Rodriguez, Josuha Guilavogui and Emiliano Insua, in order to arrange funds for the German international.
