Former Manchester United star Javier Hernandez has pleaded with supporters to give manager Louis van Gaal more time to prove himself.

In a season in which the Red Devils have failed to mount a Premier League title challenge and crash out of both European competitions, sections of the club's supporters have called for van Gaal to be sacked this summer.

However one man who doesn't share that view is the the Mexican striker, who was shipped out on loan to Real Madrid last season before being sold permanently to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen during the final days of last summer's transfer window.

Despite the lack of chances that Hernandez received, he holds no ill-feelings and insists time will tell if the Dutchman is the right man for the job.

He said: "He is a really good manager to be honest. He has his own ways like all the managers in the world.

"You will not find the new Sir Alex Ferguson in the next 50 or 100 years because he was unique. He was special.

"Van Gaal can do it but in football, time and results are going to speak about if he is the main man or if he is not," Hernandez concluded.

Hernandez has enjoyed a successful debut campaign in Germany, netting 16 goals in 25 league appearances.
