Chelsea and United to battle it out for Roma’s Kostas Manolas
Chelsea and Manchester United are set to do battle for Roma’s 24 year old Kostas Manolas over the summer with both clubs keen on the Naxos born central defender.
£30 million is said to be the asking price for the Greece international and Manchester United Manager elect Jose Mourinho, who wanted to sign him as Chelsea Manager and the new Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte are said to be keen to strengthen their respective central defensive areas.
The Greek central defender has impressed in Serie A since his arrival in the Italian capital from Olympiakos two years ago for a fee in the region of €15 million and has been a rock at the heart of the Roma defence this season.
The former AEK Athens player’s performances have put him on the radar of Antonio Conte who will know a lot about him having watched a large amount of Serie A games in his role as Italy Manager and would be seen as the long term partner to Kurt Zouma in the blues defence.
It is thought that United have jumped ahead in the race having met with some of Manolas representatives and are willing to meet the price tag to secure their target, Conte may be able to pull this deal back as you would imagine he has connections with the Rome club that could be useful.
