West Ham see Icardi offer rejected

Mauro Icardi news

West Ham's desperate search for a new striker continues

West Ham United's search for a new striker continues after seeing an offer rejected for Mauro Icardi, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the Hammers have made an offer for Inter Milan captain Icardi, but the Italian giants have rejected the bid, preferring to hold on to their star striker.

It has recently been confirmed that Inter have received new investment, and manager Roberto Mancini will have funds to spend this summer in order get the Nerazzurri back among Serie A's elite. So they will be determined to hold on to Icardi, who has been their top scorer for the last two seasons since signing from Sampdoria.

West Ham are determined to sign a new striker from the continent this summer, as they look to bolster their squad to make a push for Champions League qualification next season.

The Hammers have already had bids rejected for Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette and Marseille's Chelsea-bound striker Michy Batshuayi.

And it now appears that they have turned their attention to Icardi, but any deal for the fiery Argentinian marksman will be extremely difficult to pull off considering Inter's new financial position, and West Ham's lack of Champions League football.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham will come back with an improved bid, or turn their attentions to another target, as they try desperately to make a marquee signing ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium.
