City could be on the verge of capturing Juve star Bonucci

Manchester City could be in the verge of sealing a sensational swoop for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that CIty were in contact multiple times with Juve yesterday as they tried to push the deal through.

While The Rosea claims that Bonucci, who is currently on holiday, has already had farewell drinks with friends, leading many to believe that the 29-year-old is set for a move to the Etihad.

New CIty boss Pep Guardiola has wasted no time in bolstering the squad he inherited from Manuel Pellegrini, with the signings of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Alexandr Zinchenko.

City have also been linked with  £42 million move for Schalke 04 winger Leroy Sané.

But a move for a new ball-playing centre-back is known to be high on Guardiola's wish list, and Bonucci fits the bill perfectly, combing an imposing physicality with the ability to make decisive and accurate forward passes.

Juventus remain reluctant to sell Bonucci, and a bid of at least €60 million will be required if they are to be convinced to part ways with their key man.

In addition to Bonucci, City are also interested in signing Everton's 22-year-old defender John Stones. However, the young Englishman will not come cheap, as the Toffees are holding out for over £50 million for the former Barnsley player.
