Could Arsenal be about to sign Shkodran Mustafi?

Is Mustafi on the brink of Arsenal switch?

Arsenal could be about to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, with reports suggesting that the German defender has been left out of his side's clash with the Nigeria Allstars tonight with a transfer beckoning.

Sky Sports are reporting that the 24-year-old centre-back has not been selected in the Valencia squad for tonight's friendly match, sparking speculation that Mustafi could be set to complete a switch to Arsenal.

Mustafi is believed to be available for just €25 million this summer, which would represent a bargain for a player of his quality and experience.

The former Everton player has been at Valencia since a 2014 switch from Sampdoria and has impressed during his time at the Mestalla.

Arsenal are known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements, especially considering the recent injury to Gabriel Paulista, suffered in a friendly against Manchester City last weekend. The Brazilian will miss the first few weeks of the season, while the Gunners will also be without Per Mertesacker who is out with a long-term injury.

Arsene Wenger has also been linked with a surprising move for West Bromich Albion defender Jonny Evans. The Northern Ireland international joined the Baggies from Manchester United in 2015, and has been impressive for both club and country.

In addition to defensive targets, Wenger is also known to be keen on adding a top quality striker to his squad this summer.
