West Ham failed with €50m Lacazette bid

Alexandre Lacazette news

Lacazette will not be leaving Lyon this season

West Ham United made a mammoth €50 million bid for French striker Alexandre Lacazette earlier this summer, but the Lyon refused to sell their star man, according to the club’s president.

Speaking to SFR Sport, Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed that he rejected a huge €50 million bid from West Ham United for star striker Alexandre Lacazette earlier this summer.

The 26-year-old France international has been Lyon’s top scoring for the last two season, breaking the 20 goal barrier in each, and they were keen to hang onto the player for at least another season.

West Ham were desperate to land a top level centre forward all summer, and tried and failed with bids for Marseille’s Belgian poacher Michy Batshuayi – who has since joined Chelsea – AC Milan’s Colombian hitman Carlos Bacca in addition to Lacazette. The Hammer ended their search for a striker last week when they secured a season long loan deal for Juventus’ Italy international Simone Zaza.

Arsenal were also keen on Lacazete, and had a bid of around €35 million refused by Lyon, and the Gunners have since tied up a move for Lucas Pérez from Deportivo la Coruña.

Lacazette seems happy to be remaining at his boyhood club, and has been in outstanding form for l’OM so far this season, with six goals in three Ligue 1 games.
