Chelsea agree fee for Fiorentina defender

Marcos Alonso news

Marcos Alonso could be set for a Premier League return

Chelsea have had a bid of €27 million accepted by Fiorentina for Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso, according to reports in Italy.

Sky Italy is reporting that Fiorentina have accepted Chelsea’s €27 million offer for left-back Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea have bought a new left-back in each of the last two summer transfer windows, after signing Felipe Luis from Atlético Madrid in 2014, and Baba Rahman from Augsburg last year.

But neither managed to hold down a regular place in the Blues’ line-up, and new manager Antonio Conte has again taken to the transfer market to reinforce the position.

Alonso previously played for Bolton Wanderers and spent some time on loan at Sunderland in 2015, after joining Fiorentina the previous summer.

The 25-year-old Spaniard, who started his career at Real Madrid, has impressed at the Stadio Artemio Franchi over the last 12 months, and has caught the eye of Conte.

Chelsea are also thought to be on the lookout for a new central defender. After having bids rejected for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli, they now appear to have turned their attention to Lazio’s Netherlands international Stefan De Vrij.

De Vrij signed for Lazio after the 2014 World Cup for £7 million, and was impressive after overcoming a shaky start to life in Rome.

A knee injury ended his campaign early last season, but the defender seems to have recovered fully.
