Chelsea eyeing sensational return for David Luiz?

Chelsea have lodged a surprise bid to sign former star David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazil international left Stamford Bridge for France on a £50m deal two years ago.

Luiz, 29, was shipped out to Les Parisiens in 2014 after he fell-out-favour under former boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

He has since earned a regular role at Parc des Princes, but with the arrival of coach Unai Emery this summer, this may not be the case. Marquinhos is the likely candidate to partner Tiago Silva at the heart of the defence, and this puts the Brazilian's future into question.

Sky Sports News says the Blues' desperation for a new centre-half has led them to one of their former players in Luiz. Antonio Conte's side have tabled an offer of £30m plus add-ons in a bid to re-sign the versatile player before tonight's transfer deadline.

Luiz made 143 appearances for Chelsea between 2010 and 2014.
