Arsenal sign Shkodran Mustafi, Lucas Perez

Arsenal have confirmed the signings of striker Lucas Perez and defender Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna respectively. The duo arrive at the Emirates for a combined fee of around £53m.

Spanish footballer Perez completed his much-awaited transfer to Arsenal earlier on Tuesday after he underwent a successful medical alongside Mustafi.

Perez, 27, was nearing a move to Everton before the Gunners stepped up their interest and triggered his £17.1m release clause. He netted 17 goals and eight assists in his previous campaign in La Liga.

On the other hand, German international Mustafi had been on the club's radar since the start of the month, but a deal was only finalized last week after Valencia settled on a sum in excess of £35m for his signature.

The 24-year-old will add the much-need boost to the Gunners backline which has seen the likes of Gabriel and Per Mertesacker being ruled out with long-term injuries.

Manager Arsene Wenger has eclipsed the highest spending done in a single day at Arsenal beating the £42.5m fee paid to recruit Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.
