Mourinho wants The Ox this summer

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is open to offloading Chris Smalling to Arsenal in the summer, provided his side manage to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as part of the agreement.

Smalling has been linked with a move to the Emirates since the summer of 2015, and it is understood that the north London giants will revive their interest at the end of the campaign.

According to The Mirror, the Special One is willing to let go of Smalling during the off-season as he already has plans to recruit a new central defender to his ranks.

However, Smalling will not link up with a direct league rival in Arsenal unless they offer a player in turn. Oxlade-Chamberlain is said to be the top target for Mourinho, who sees his team short of options in midfield, but it is still unknown what kind of deal could go through.

The Ox is currently approaching the final year of his Gunners contract, and talks over a fresh extension seem to have stalled, as of now.

Mourinho had previously tried to recruit one of Theo Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain in exchange for Petr Cech at Chelsea (summer of 2015), but they had to settle for a cash deal.
