Rooney serious over Everton comeback

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is considering the possibility of returning to former club Everton in the summer

The Toffees had enquired over Rooney's services during the backend of the winter transfer window, but United were not keen on losing more players over the period.

Both Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay left Old Trafford in the winter - the former to Everton and this urged United to keep their squad intact until the summer.

According to Sky Sports News, the 31-year-old has his eyes on a possible Goodison comeback with his United career looking more likely to come to an end.

Veteran star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recently highlighted his intention to pen a fresh two-year contract at United, and this could affect Rooney's playing time further, given the Swede will probably own the role upfront.

It is claimed that the Merseyside outfit made an enquiry to Jose Mourinho last month over the availability of the Englishman, but the offer of an initial loan approach was quickly knocked back by United.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman recently cited that Rooney would make his side 'more stronger' and a move would well on the cards this summer, with United prepared to pay off the striker for the remainder of his 15-month contract.
