Chelsea to spend £100m to sign EPL centre-back
Premier League leaders Chelsea will have to cough up a combined £100m in fees and wages in order to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in the summer.
The Holland international joined the Saints from Scottish side Celtic in the summer of 2015 and has since gone on to become one of the most consistent defenders in the top flight.
A report from The Sun suggests that the Blues will have to cough up a package of around £100m if they are to stand a chance of signing Van Dijk in the summer.
Southampton are due to demand a fee of around £55m for the highly-rated defender, who could, in turn, request a salary matching the club's highest earner.
Eden Hazard is currently the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge at 200,000-a-week and the Blues will have to match a similar wage package in order to lure the Dutch centre-back to west London.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also understood to hold an interest in the Saints star, but a move could be dependent on their European status next term.
