Real Madrid's attempt to bring Sergio Aguero the Bernabeu has taken a hit after Pep Guardiola confirmed his status as a City player next season.

Sergio Aguero has had to accept a second-fiddle role of sorts to new signing Gabriel Jesus after his transfer in January. Some fans have claimed that Sergio Aguero has underperformed this season and support the decision to start Gabriel ahead of the Argentine.

However, the numbers tell a different story. This has been Aguero's most prolific reason yet for Manchester City, scoring a massive 33 goals in all competitions.

Real Madrid have been keeping tabs on Aguero for a long time and would have though this summer to be the perfect opportunity to finally get their man after Guardiola's apparent preference for Gabriel Jesus over Aguero. Guardiola had also previously suggested a massive squad overhaul in the summer.

Speaking at the post-match conference after City demolished Watford 5-0 in their final game of the season in which Aguero scored a brace, Guardiola said, "We finished 15 points behind Chelsea, so we have to play better and Sergio helped us a lot. But we have to provide him better solutions to score more goals."

Guardiola reacted angrily to questions about the futures of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero, saying "How many times I answer that question about the future of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero. In Manchester, I have answered 10-15 times."

"They will be in Manchester City next season."

This is a clear indication of Aguero's future and unless the striker himself wants a move, he seems destined to remain at City and Madrid will likely miss out on the forward.
