Arsenal reject bid for returning goalkeeper

Szczesny last played for Arsenal in January 2015

Arsenal have rejected a £4 million bid from Serie A champions Juventus for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who is currently set to return to The Gunners after a loan spell with Roma last season.

As Szczesny enters the final year of his Arsenal contract, it is believed that Juventus see him as a long term replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, who is approaching the end of his illustrious career.

The Polish goalkeeper contributed to an impressive campaign for Roma last season as they went on to finish as runners up for the Serie A trophy.

The Sun reports that Arsenal have rejected a £4 million offer from Juventus without any consideration due to the fact that they value him closer to the £13 million mark.

As current backup goalkeeper David Ospina edges closer to an exit from the club, manager Arsene Wenger would rather keep Szczesny as his deputy 'keeper instead of selling him at a cut price.

At twenty-eight years of age, it is understandable that Wojciech Szczesny wants to be playing regular first team football. With that looking unlikely at The Emirates, he would prefer to move away.

However, as Juventus and Napoli, who are also being linked with the player, appear unwilling to pay the price and Arsenal looking determined not to reduce their asking price, Szczesny could be playing backup to Petr Cech in the Premier League next season.
