Riyad Mahrez set for Arsenal switch
Eyefootball can exclusively reveal that Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a move to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, but the deal will only be completed if Alexis Sanchez can wrap up a transfer to Man City on transfer deadline day. Riyad Mahrez has been set home from Algeria's national team training camp.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to move quickly to bring in a replacement for the outbound Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean looking increasingly likely to make a transfer move to Manchester City for a fee of around £62.75 million. Arsenal have beaten AS Roma to the signing of Mahrez having had a bid of £40 million accepted for Mahrez, who famously helped Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015/16.
The Algerian international had asked for special dispensation to leave the country's ongoing training camp and a statement from the Algerian FA read: "Leicester City's Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, who is currently with the national team in Sidi Moussa to prepare for the double confrontation against Zambia for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, was authorised by the national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise on Thursday his transfer to his new club."
Arsenal are expected to be one of the busiest teams on transfer deadline day and could also sign Julian Draxler on a loan deal from Paris St Germain.
