Conte slams the lack of depth in the Chelsea squad

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted that the club are presently playing the same players in each competition due to a lack of depth in the first-team squad.

The Blues played out an entertaining 3-3 draw versus AS Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday night, where David Luiz was deployed in midfield in a 3-5-2 formation.

Luiz was substituted in the second period with a minor calf issue, and Conte insists that the move was pretty much forced as he does not have sufficient players to rotate with.

"It was fair. It was a difficult game against a good team," he told BT Sport. "Above all in the first half we suffered, our performance was good but for sure our football is different than today."

"When we changed in the second half the situation was changing. David Luiz had a little problem in his calf and in this moment I can't risk my players."

Chelsea were on the verge of suffering a hat-trick of defeats for the first time since 2006, but an Eden Hazard header in the second-half made it 3-3 against the Giallorossi, who dominated the possession in the game.

The stalemate sees the Blues top Group C of the Champions League with seven points, five ahead of third-placed Atletico Madrid, who surprisingly drew 0-0 versus Qarabag.

Chelsea take on Watford in Saturday's early Premier League outing from Stamford Bridge, and Conte could expect another tough match with the Hornets performing above expectations under Marco Silva.
