Predicted Man United lineup vs Benfica

Manchester United will look to cement their spot in the knockout stage of the Champions League when they entertain Benfica at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils put in a good performance in the 1-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur, and Jose Mourinho will expect more of the same against a Benfica side, who are yet to open their points tally.

The Europa League holders face a difficult away trip to Chelsea on Sunday, and Mourinho could juggle his options, although there will be a significant number of first-choice players.

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Lineup:

Mourinho has made it clear that David de Gea is the preferred shot-stopper for the Champions League and the Spaniard will be tasked with helping his side with another clean sheet.

Phil Jones has played no part in the club's European campaign, and Tuesday could be no different with Mourinho opting to play the centre-back with caution due to his fitness concerns.

In this case, Victor Lindelof could make his fourth straight start in the Champions League alongside Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling - in a back three.

Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young featured in the right and left wing-back positions respectively in the Spurs win, but Mourinho could opt to change things around with Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind replacing the pair.

The manager, however, does not have a similar luxury in the midfield, and Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic are likely to take their places in the centre of the park.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was mostly out of sight during the Spurs triumph, and Mourinho could be tempted to offer Jesse Lingard an opportunity in the number 10 role, where he excelled in the recent win League Cup win over Swansea City.

Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku struggled in a two-striker partnership early on (on Saturday), and Anthony Martial could be drafted into the lineup in place of Rashford.

Martial and Lukaku shined together in the 4-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow last month, and they also played a significant role in the crucial victory against Spurs.

Manchester United lineup (3-4-1-2): De Gea, Bailly, Lindelof, Smalling, Darmian, Blind, Herrera, Matic, Lingard, Martial, Lukaku
