Manchester United are reported to have rekindled their interest in James Rodriguez, who has impressed during his temporary stint with Bayern Munich this term.

The Real Madrid attacker had initially been touted for a move to Old Trafford, but he eventually opted to join Bayern on a two-year loan during the last summer transfer window.

Rodriguez started his Bundesliga career in a relatively slow fashion, but the arrival of manager Jupp Heynckes has improved his form over the course of the season.

According to Don Balon, Jose Mourinho has plans to go on another spending spree during the summer, and Rodriguez is apparently the prime target on his radar.

Bayern presently have the first-option of acquiring the services of Rodriguez on a permanent basis, but it is suggested that the German club may not be willing to spend a club-record £38m fee for the 26-year-old.

Earlier last month, Mourinho suggested that United won't be spending on forward signings during the off-season, but the club's recent run of performances could tempt the Portuguese to change his priorities.
