Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Napoli forward Dries Mertens ahead of this summer's transfer window.
The Belgium international had previously been linked with the Mancunian giants last summer but they eventually opted to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton instead.
According to The Sun, United boss Jose Mourinho is likely to reinvest into the squad during the summer after a disappointing 1-0 league defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion.
It is added that Mertens is the leading target in their shortlist owing to his £25m release clause alongside his ability to play in different positions in the attack.
The 30-year-old was more of a winger during his initial days with Napoli but under Maurizio Sarri, he has played in a central role which has contributed to his regular goalscoring.
The former PSV ace has notched 45 league goals for Napoli since the start of last season. His current contract expires in the summer of 2020.
