Liverpool defender suffers season-ending injury
Liverpool have confirmed that Joe Gomez has undergone a surgery on an ankle problem which is expected to sideline him for the long-term.
The centre-back has been a regular with the England national side of late but the operation is now expected to keep him out of the summer World Cup in Russia.
Gomez had recovered from a long-term injury sustained during his initial Reds career to became a regular under Jurgen Klopp but unfortunately, he has suffered another injury setback.
He has now joined the likes of Emre Can, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines for the campaign whilst Adam Lallana remains doubtful to take the playing field for the remaining matches.
Gomez has made a total of 30 appearances for the club this term and most of those have come on the right side of the defence. Liverpool are currently on 72 points for the Premier League season and they need to pick up at least a draw against Brighton on the final day to secure a top-four spot.
