Chelsea identify Higuain as prime striker target

Chelsea are reportedly deemed front runners to pursue the services of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus during the summer transfer window.

The Blues are widely expected to name Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach once they manage to settle a compensation package with outgoing boss Antonio Conte.

With this in mind, the west Londoners are already looking into potential recruits in the transfer market and according to Calciomercato, Sarri is said to be keen on a reunion with Higuain.

Higuain has been with the Bianconeri for only two seasons since leaving Napoli but the Turin giants are open to his sale, should they pursue Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.

The Serie A holders are understood to want at least £61.2m in order to part ways with the Argentine and they are expected to utilise the sum recouped to sign his compatriot Icardi, who is currently valued at £87m.

Higuain has averaged a goal in every other game throughout his professional career and his potential arrival at Stamford Bridge could present doubts over the future of Alvaro Morata.
