Pep Guardiola speaks on Sterling's contract situation
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that he wants Raheem Sterling to stay at the club by signing a new contract.
According to reports, talks are ongoing about extending his stay with the Citizens. His current deal ends in the summer of 2020.
“We are delighted with him and would like Raheem to stay,” he said, Manchester Evening News reports. “We’ll do our effort to make him feel we count on him. And we do count on him.”
Guardiola went ahead to admit that an agreement may not be reached for a new deal, but he said that both parties are aware that the player is wanted by the champions.
City were back in action over the weekend, with Sterling scoring a goal as they ran out 2-0 winners over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Sterling's goal against the Gunners was his 50th in the Premier League. He scored 18 goals in 33 league games last season.
Next Sunday, Pep Guardiola's men will face Huddersfield Town, who are still fresh from their three nil thrashing by Chelsea.
