Phil Thompson: Klopp needs to win a trophy this year

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has said that Jurgen Klopp needs to win a trophy this season given the squad at his disposal.

After making major signings during the last two transfer windows, Liverpool are currently unbeaten this season as they fight to win a title this term after reaching the UEFA Champions League final last May.

"Jurgen has to win a trophy this year. For the quality of squad he now has, he has to win a trophy," he said, Sky Sports reports.

Thompson said this ahead of the Reds' League Cup Third Round Clash with Chelsea on Wednesday, adding that the competition gives Klopp a great opportunity to win a trophy.

They face a formidable side in Maurizio Sarri's Blues who have drawn just once and lost none of their opening games this season.

The last game between these two sides ended in a one nil defeat for Liverpool in the Premier League, with Olivier Giroud getting the only goal.
