Panagiotis Retsos
Panagiotis Retsos
Highly rated defender Panagiotis Retsos is making waves in the Bundesliga. The talented defender, who currently players for German club Bayer Leverkusen, has caught the eye with a number of impressive displays for his club and despite having only just turned 20-years-old, Retsos has already made 5 apperances for Greece's full national team.
Greece have some of Europe's best young defensive talent, as already seen in Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, but Panagiotis Retsos could even be a better player than the Gunners' player.
Retsos, who made a move from Olympiacos to Leverkusen in August 2017 for a massive £16 million transfer fee, has a four year deal with his club and has already caught the eye of Real Madrid and Barcelona, both of whom have been linked with a £40 million move for the 6 foot 1 defender.
Retsos is powerful in the air and dangerous in the box, particularly when working from set pieces. The South Africa born defender is also very comfortable on the ball with excellent ability to read the game. He also has been praised for his lack of aggression that sees him receive very few yellow cards; a true testament to his character and somewhat of a rarity for a central defender.
Leverkusen have produced some fine central defenders in recent years, for example his team mate Jonathan Tah, and the shrewd acquisition of Retsos will be important for the club's development as well as likely the club's finances, as Retsos is very likely to go on to a bigger club in the next 2-3 years.
