Liverpool pursuing creative playmaker Kerem Demirbay

Liverpool have reportedly held talks for Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay.

Arsenal and Liverpool were linked with a potential move for the Germany international earlier this year, but no deal took place after the playmaker was hit with a lengthy injury before signing a new contract.

However, reports suggest that Demirbay’s agent, who also represents Sadio Mane and Naby Keita, have maintained communication with Liverpool and are working on a deal.

Demirbay played the full 90 minutes in Hoffenheim’s defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League recently. He has one assist in his four appearances this season.

Jurgen Klopp oversaw the departure of Demirbay from Borussia Dortmund to HSV in 2013, where he spent three years before moving on to Hoffenheim.

Liverpool have been lacking in midfield creativity this season and may be thinking long-term with the potential signing of Demirbay, who is 25 years old, as a future replacement for Adam Lallana or James Milner.

OPINION: After acquiring the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho in the transfer window, one would fancy Liverpool’s hopes for a run in the Premier League. These quality additions were seen as a clear up gradation of quality, soundness and flair in Liverpool’s midfield which it previously lacked. One of the power houses in this midfield is James Milner. Milner has been fiercely loyal to the Anfield supporters. Milner is 32 yet hits the ground running and leaves supporters in awe, but for Jurgen Klopp who is building an unbreachable fortress at Anfield has to look for life after James Milner.

Demirbay could be one of the prime targets and the fact that his natural style of play compliments Klopp’s philosophy at Liverpool enhancing his chances of ending up at Anfield. With a moderate price of €30 million in today’s transfer market, Demirbay could a steal for Liverpool.
