Arsenal manager reacts after Manchester United draw

Unai Emery news

Emery believes Arsenal lost control

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has indicated that Gunners struggled to gain control during the 2-2 league draw against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Gunners opened the scoring via Shkodran Mustafi at the halfway stage of the first half but their advantage was quickly nullified with Anthony Martial levelling the scores.

Following the break, the north Londoners were the more dominant side with the possession and they took advantage of a defensive lapse from Marcos Rojo to take the lead once more.

However, their ascendancy barely lasted a minute after a Sead Kolasinac mistake in the opposite end allowed Jesse Lingard to find the equaliser for the second time for United.

Speaking after the game, Emery highlighted that he was pleased with the performance but felt the team could have done better to secure the three points, which they have failed to garner at Old Trafford since 2006.

"We need to improve defensively, but we need to have balance and not lose our attacking chances. We perhaps lost a bit of control there but I am very proud of our performance. We wanted to win but we can feel this point is good," he told BBC Sport.

With the stalemate, the Gunners have dropped to fifth in the league standings behind Chelsea on goal difference after the latter suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
