Atletico Madrid confident of signing Chelsea defender

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly confident of securing the signature of defender Marcos Alonso from Chelsea this summer.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay for the Blues in the past three seasons but he endured a tough end to the previous campaign where he was on the bench with Emerson getting a regular run.

As such, there has been speculation that he could pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere and The Mirror claims that Atletico could emerge as the next destination for the former Fiorentina man.

Atletico are expected to pursue at least one left-back this summer with Lucas Hernandez joining Bayern Munich while Filipe Luis is due to leave the club on a Bosman when his contract expires next month.

Alonso has been one of the leading left-backs plying their trade in England in the past three seasons. He has made 120 appearances for the Blues while finding the scoresheet on 18 occasions.
