Manchester United eyeing move for World Cup winner

United in for Matuidi?

Manchester United have reportedly contacted Juventus regarding the availability of midfielder Blaise Matuidi during the current transfer window.

The Red Devils are expected to pursue at least one midfielder this summer after parting ways with Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera over the past six months.

According to Le Parisien, United and league rivals Everton are understood to have held talks with the Bianconeri regarding a potential £20m deal for Matuidi.

The World Cup winner has just 12 months remaining on his contract with the Serie A holders but it is indicated that Maurizio Sarri's side may prefer to keep him for the final year of the deal rather than sanctioning his sale.

Aside from Matuidi, the Red Devils have also been linked with a £50m swoop for Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, but the deal could be dependent on the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are said to be working on a record package for a defender to sign Leicester City's Harry Maguire and that is expected to consume most of the remaining budget for the summer.

Elsewhere, Lukaku has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, but so far, the Nerazzurri have failed to come up with a package close to the Red Devils' £75m price tag.
