Manchester United have confirmed the permanent sale of defender Matteo Darmian to Parma for a reported fee in the region of £3.6m

The 29-year-old becomes the fourth United player to head to the Serie A this summer following Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling.

Darmian had hardly got the chance to impress for the Red Devils over the past 14 months and he made just five league starts during the previous campaign.

He was recruited from Torino for nearly £13m three years ago but United have taken a significant loss on that figure with just £3.6m agreed for his sale.

With the departure of Darmian, United have just one recognised right-back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the ranks but Axel Tuanzebe and Ashley Young can play in the position.

Manchester United have made their worst start to the Premier League campaign in nearly three decades and they have gained just five points from the opening four games.
