Predicted Manchester United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Astana, Chong and James start
Manchester United are at Old Trafford for the Europa League opener against Astana on Thursday night. The Red Devils ended a three-game winless run during the recent weekend against Leicester City and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to build the momentum with a victory over the Kazakhstan champions.
The Europa League encounter offers Solskjaer with the opportunity to experiment with the lineup, given Astana don't possess the same quality within the ranks of United.
In goal, David de Gea could be rested for Sergio Romero, who will be aiming for his first piece of action between the sticks. In the defence, summer signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka may be rested and this may witness Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe earn their maiden starts of the season.
In the midfield, Nemanja Matic could be replaced by Fred, who seemed lively during his cameo appearance against Leicester. The Brazilian will most certainly partner Scott McTominay, who has now emerged as the number one choice in the centre of the park.
In the attack front, a couple of changes could be on the cards. Marcus Rashford could be afforded with a breather after starting every game this term. He is likely to be replaced by Mason Greenwood upfront with Anthony Martial still on the sidelines.
Elsewhere, there should be starts for Daniel James and Andreas Pereira in the attacking midfield and they are likely to be accompanied by Tahith Chong. The Dutchman showed glimpses of his speed and trickery in the recent Foxes clash and that should be sufficient to hand him with a starting role.
Predicted XI: Sergio Romero, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Scott McTominay, Fred, Tahith Chong, Andreas Pereira, Daniel James, Mason Greenwood
