Hudson-Odoi explains reason behind new Chelsea deal

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has said that he made a 'very good decision' to sign a fresh five-year contract with the west London giants.

The 18-year-old had handed in a transfer request to push through a move to Bayern Munich in January but the Blues had no ambition to sanction his sale.

Hudson-Odoi thereafter earned a regular run of starts in the Premier League under manager Maurizio Sarri but his season ended on a sour note after he picked up a serious Achilles injury in April.

Since then, there had been speculation whether Hudson-Odoi would pen a new deal beyond the 2019/2020 campaign and the saga eventually ended last month with him signing a renewal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Hudson-Odoi said that the Europa League holders have done so much for him over the years and he made a very good decision to extend his stay with the club.

"The club have done so much for me and I'm so thankful for that. The decision that I made was a very good one for me and my family. I've been here all my life, so there's no need to change yet," he told.

Since his return from injury, Hudson-Odoi has featured in four games for the Blues across all competitions and he has contributed a goal or an assist in each of those matches.
