Martinez says Batshuayi must play regularly at club level to make Euro 2020 squad

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has said that Michy Batshuayi needs to play more frequently at Chelsea or else he could miss out on next summer's Euro 2020 squad.

The marksman has yet to make a Premier League start for the Blues this term with manager Frank Lampard preferring Tammy Abraham to regularly lead the line.

Still, Batshuayi has contributed three goals for the club across all competitions but Martinez does not believe the gametime is sufficient enough to make the national team squad for next summer's tournament.

“He doesn’t play enough at Chelsea. I think that’s a shame, even though he scores a lot with the national team. I hope he will play more, because we really need him… But then he has to play. Otherwise a solution must be found," he told HLN.

Batshuayi has recently got the regular nod from the substitutes' bench but he could face competition for the same with Olivier Giroud back to full fitness after his unexpected illness last month.

Premier League Crystal Palace are deemed to be eyeing a winter approach for Batshuayi but it remains unclear whether the Blues will sanction his sale, should they fail to overcome their transfer ban.
