Rudiger undergoes operation for groin problem

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that Antonio Rudiger has undergone a fresh operation on the groin problem picked up at the beginning of the season.

The Germany international was initially predicted to make a comeback this month but that will no longer be the case with the centre-back requiring an operation to rectify his ongoing injury concern.

Speaking in a press conference, Lampard acknowledged that Rudiger will continue to remain on the sidelines and he is only expected to return to training at the end of the month.

"He had an operation and he is going to be out probably for three weeks, hopefully. Then we will have to see where match fitness comes in because he has been out for a long time now," he told Sky Sports.

Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori have formed a tremendous partnership in the central defence in the absence of Rudiger but Lampard has another senior option available this weekend with Andreas Christensen returning from his hamstring setback.
