Arsenal to stick with Freddie Ljungberg for longer period?

Ljungberg may get prolonged spell as Arsenal manager

Arsenal will reportedly hand Freddie Ljungberg with the caretaker role for a prolonged period as they take their time to appoint a permanent manager.

The north London giants announced the dismissal of Unai Emery from the head coach position earlier in the week after the club went winless for seven matches on the bounce.

Ljungberg, who was the assistant to Emery, was handed with the managerial role on an interim basis and it appears that he could keep his position for the rest of the year.

According to The Times, the former Gunners attacker looks set for an extended period at the helm with the club's hierarchy willing to take their time to recruit the right manager for the job.

Mikel ArtetaBrendan Rodgers, Nuno Espirito Santo, Massimiliano Allegri, Mauricio PochettinoCarlo Ancelotti have been mentioned as probable candidates but the club have yet to make contact with any of them.

Arsenal are currently eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea but they can close the gap with a victory over Norwich City on the road on Sunday afternoon.
