Frank Lampard hints at new position for Christian Pulisic
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that Christian Pulisic could be an option to lead the line for the Blues in the absence of Tammy Abraham with a hip problem.
Abraham sustained the injury during the Champions League clash against Valencia last week and that saw him sidelined for the weekend's league clash against West Ham United.
Oliver Giroud was handed with the chance to impress in the local derby but he was hugely disappointing as he managed just 21 touches of the ball before he was substituted in the 71st minute.
Speaking after the game, Lampard was asked whether Pulisic could be an option to start upfront and he admitted that there is the possibility of that happening with Abraham's fitness still in doubt.
"We'll see (whether Pulisic could play through the middle). He's got an ability to run behind the line and to be sharp in central areas, which will naturally get him more goals but I'm not going to say right now that's the solution. We'll see going forward," he told via Football.London.
Michy Batshuayi has previously been the regular choice off the bench to replace Tammy Abraham but he has been disappointing in recent weeks and was criticised by the fans for regularly being called offside against Manchester City.
