Arsenal to swoop for Bundesliga striker?

Volland to Arsenal in January?

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eyeing a mid-season deal for Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland as he looks to strengthen the club's prospects of finishing in the top four.

The Gunners appointed Arteta as their new head coach on Friday and reports have since emerged that the Spaniard will be backed with funds to bolster his squad in the New Year.

While the defence and midfield are regarded as the priorities, Sky Sports News has claimed that Arteta still wants to add an attacking option in the form of Volland from Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old has a decent record with Bayer, having contributed 39 goals from 105 league games but his future with the club remains uncertain with his contract expiring in 18 months' time.

Meanwhile, there are claims that Volland's arrival could pave the way for the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has yet to show any intention of renewing his deal.

The Gabon international has amassed more than 50 goals for the Gunners since his move from Borussia Dortmund last year but he is now said to be considering his future, due to the club's slump in the Premier League.

The Gunners are going through their worst phase in the Premier League era and they are presently 11th in the standings with a nine-point gap to the Champions League spots.
