Tottenham Hotspur enter the race to sign Barcelona star

Rakitic to Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the likes of Sevilla and Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona this summer.

Rakitic has endured a tough campaign with the Blaugrana and he has been limited to only 10 starts in the Spanish La Liga.

According to AS, the Croatian is mulling over a possible exit from the Camp Nou with his existing deal due to expire in 14 months' time. The same outlet claims that Spurs have entered the pursuit of the midfielder, who is a huge favourite of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho failed to sign the midfielder during his time at Chelsea and Manchester United and he has previously said that the 32-year-old is one of the world's most under-rated players.

Despite the speculation, Blaugrana boss Quique Setien has recently said that Rakitic has not formally requested to leave the club and he would remain in his first-team plans next term.

Spurs are planning to recruit at least one midfielder during the next transfer window. Rakitic could cost around £18m but it remains to be seen whether he favours a move to a fresh league at the current phase of his career.
