Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner during the next transfer window. The Germany international is also on the radar of Liverpool and Chelsea.

Werner is likely to pursue a fresh challenge away from Leipzig this summer and he has already made it clear that he won't make the switch to Bayern Munich.

According to SportBild, the German has the preference to join Jurgen Klopp's side in the Premier League but the club have yet to express any interest in acquiring his services.

Instead, United and Chelsea have made contact with the player's agent and they could potentially battle it out for his signature when the transfer window reopens.

The Red Devils have had Anthony Martial as the main striker this term and the Frenchman has fared well with 16 goals and five assists across all competitions.

Still, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may want competition for places to enhance the club's performances and Werner would perfectly suit them with his strong finishing qualities.

Werner has been in splendid touch for Leipzig this term. He has netted 27 goals and contributed 12 assists from just 36 appearances.

He will be in action for Leipzig next weekend when the Bundesliga season recommences after the coronavirus shutdown.
