Chelsea could reportedly go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Gerson during this summer's transfer window.

The west London side have already landed the signature of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax while it appears only a matter of time before Timo Werner signs for them from RB Leipzig.

According to Fox Sports, the Blues are on the look out for a versatile midfielder to add to their squad and Gerson is one of the top names on their radar for the summer.

Spurs recently failed with a bid of around £16m for the Flamengo ace but they are expected to come up with a fresh offer. However, they could face stiff competition from the Blues in the player's pursuit.

The Brazilian champions are not keen on losing their prized asset but they could be tempted to accept offers of more than £30m, particularly with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Still, it is unclear whether the 23-year-old would fancy a return to European football. Gerson was previously in the ranks of AS Roma for three years where he was barely offered the chance to impress.
