Arteta open to Mustafi contract extension

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened the door for Shkodran Mustafi to sign a fresh deal following the consistent performances under his guidance.

The Germany international made only seven appearances under Unai Emery and Freddie Ljungberg this term, but he has been a regular since Arteta took charge of the club.

Mustafi has already featured in 17 games under the Spaniard's tutelage and he has been one of the leading performers alongside the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka.

Speaking in a press conference, Arteta said that he is pleased with the performances of the defender and it is upto the hierarchy to extend the German's stay beyond June 2021.

"That's something the club has to address but he knows my opinion. I'm really happy with him as you can see. The way he's playing, how committed he is with everything we're trying to do, the level in his performance ever three or four days, he's been really consistent," He told.

Mustafi has made seven starts on the bounce since the season resumption after the COVID-19 break. He is expected to start for the Gunners in the north London derby tomorrow.
